Need Help Paying Heating Bills? Pennsylvania LIHEAP May Help

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, known as LIHEAP, helps eligible Pennsylvania households pay heating bills. Benefits are grants that do not have to be repaid. Cash assistance is sent directly to the participating utility or fuel provider and credited toward heating costs.

Homeowners and renters may qualify. You do not need to receive other public assistance or have an overdue heating bill, but income and other eligibility requirements apply.

When Does the 2026–27 LIHEAP Season Open?

Pennsylvania’s published schedule lists November 2, 2026, through April 23, 2027 for the upcoming season. Cash grants range from $200 to $1,000, depending on factors including household income, household size, region and heating type.

What Is LIHEAP Crisis Assistance?

Eligible households facing a heating emergency may qualify for Crisis assistance. Situations can include running out of fuel, having less than a 15-day fuel supply, losing the main heating source, or needing help with broken heating equipment or leaking lines.

Contact your County Assistance Office to explain your situation and find out which assistance applies. Get authorization before arranging a delivery you expect Crisis assistance to cover. Pennsylvania’s rules do not allow Crisis payment for an unauthorized delivery or one that resolves the emergency before authorization. Review the official Crisis assistance requirements.
